DNA GENETICS OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON HOME GROWS

We want to make this 100% clear.

We support patients.

We support caregivers.

We support the traditional market.

We have and will continue to support home growers all over the world the way we have since we started providing seeds to people over 20 years ago.

Recently, there has been a lot of discussion surrounding the MCMA and comments made by its executive director, Steve Linder regarding his views on home grows and caregiver programs in Michigan. Some people have suggested that we support his stance and unfortunately, have been trying to push a narrative that we condone and support his opinions and efforts to limit or reevaluate these programs. Time to clear the air.

DNA Genetics, Sherbinski’s and the Global Alliance for Cannabis Commerce Do Not support the views of Steve Linder, the MCMA or any efforts to oppress patients, caregivers or home growers.

Our position isn’t in response to his remarks. This has been our stance all along. DNA Genetics is a seed company. Our primary focus is to create new varieties and share them with the world for EVERYONE to grow. Of course, we are going to partner with licensed producers in every market— we want to make sure large-scale producers have access to our genetics to use in their cultivation and manufacturing programs. That doesn’t mean that we support limiting access to programs or participation in the industry. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.  We have been pushing the “Grow Your Own” messaging since 2004 and will continue to do so.  We even have a TV show called, “Pimp my Grow,” a DIY home improvement style format that showcases our commitment to supporting small home grows. We will continue to make our seeds available to everyone and provide genetics to licensed producers and home growers all over the world. We understand that big corporate Cannabis is here and aren’t pretending that’s it’s going away. That’s why it’s even more important to use our voice to support all of the patients, growers, processors, hustlers and everyone that brings out the very best in this plant and this community. There’s more than enough to go around. This protectionist behavior needs to stop.

We formed the Global Alliance for Cannabis Commerce a few years ago and since its inception have clearly stated on our website our support for home growers. We then had to deal with this same issue in Illinois and published an op-ed in a Chicago Tribune article firmly reiterating our support…. Nothing has changed.

At the end of the day, this is about the plant. All of us pushing for the greater good of what this plant represents and pushing for the best iterations of what this plant can provide us: the best weed, best hash and best medicine. Period. We all know that the best representation of this plant has always come from that small batch, single source, home grower/hashmaker and always will. As a seed company, that’s exactly who we will always support.

This is going to be a fight but know we have your back. I will make sure that we use all of our influence to support the people and help correct some of our misguided colleagues. First, I’d like to call for the immediate resignation of Steve Linder from MCMA. This guy obviously doesn’t get it and doesn’t deserve to be pulling a paycheck from this industry.

This industry will continue to evolve and we will evolve with it but we will never compromise the values that got us here. Make sure you’re on the right side of history.
