On June 19th, the Canadian Senate has approved the Cannabis act (C45) making Canada the second country to officially legalize and regulate all aspects of marijuana production, sale and consumption.

The Bill has already passed the House of Commons and has the full support from Justin Trudeau, the Prime minister of Canada.

“Canada should be applauded for taking bold and decisive steps towards ending the failed prohibition of marijuana,” said Hannah Hetzer, Senior International Policy Manager for the Drug Policy Alliance. “Canada’s progress will galvanize support for drug policy reforms in the U.S. and all around the world.”

Bill C-45 allows for the possession of up to 30 grams of dried marijuana for adults overs the age of 18. It states that all marijuana must be sold in plain packaging with limited branding and sets asides penalties for those driving whilst under the influence and sales to minors.

Medical marijuana has been legal in Canada since 2001, and Justin Trudeau and his liberal party included marijuana legalization in their 2015 campaign originally.

We are so happy for Canada in their fight and with our ongoing partnership with Tweed in Canada will only allow for more consumers being able to medicate legally with DNA Genetics offically liscened products.

We have many great plans for the future with regards to DNA in Canada, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for more exclusive information as it drops.
